Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has assured the family of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad that steps will be taken to ensure a speedy conclusion of the murder case.

The prime minister gave the assurance when Abrar’s family members met him at the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat on Thursday afternoon.
When the family members sought justice for Abrar’s murder, Tarique Rahman said the case is currently pending before the High Court. He said the court would independently complete the judicial proceedings and assured the family that the government would provide all necessary support in this regard.
Abrar Fahad was a residential student of Sher-e-Bangla Hall at BUET and a second-year student of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

He was brutally beaten to death on October 6, 2019, reportedly over a Facebook post concerning what was described as unequal agreements between Bangladesh and India and water-sharing issues.

Several leaders and activists of the then BUET unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League were accused of involvement in the killing. They were later convicted in the murder case.
