Former West Bengal Chief Minister and All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) chief Mamata Banerjee, along with senior party leader Derek O'Brien and several other Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders, has been released following a brief detention by the Delhi Police on Saturday (October 10).
Earlier in the day, Delhi Police detained Mamata Banerjee and her party colleagues from the South Avenue area in the national capital.
Law enforcement authorities cited allegations of an unlawful gathering after TMC leaders staged a sit-in demonstration in the area.
The TMC delegation had arrived in Delhi to participate in a scheduled demonstration at Jantar Mantar, organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
Following the security clampdown preventing their movement toward the protest site, Banerjee and her supporters held a sit-in at South Avenue, leading to their police detention alongside other high-profile opposition leaders in the capital. All detained TMC leaders were subsequently released later in the day.
