Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-12 members in a raid on Wednesday evening recovered 92.5kg of hemp and arrested two persons in this connection from Bangabandhu Jamuna Bridge Western side near Sayedabad intersection on the Dhaka-North Bengal highway in Sirajganj Sadar upazila.
The arrested were identified as Md, Shamim Hossain, 25, son of Md, Amjad Hossain of Dakshmin Rambhodropur village in Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat district and Md, Shamim Hossain, 26, son of Md, Abdus Salam of Kagmari village in Kotchandpur upazila of Jhenaidah district.
Acting on a tip-off, RAB forces conducted a raid and recovered the mentioned amount of hemp from a pick-up van after conducting a search. During the drive, the elite forces detained two drug peddlers and seized the pick-up van used in the evil deeds.
Quoting to the arrestees’ statement, RAB sources said, “The arrestees had been carrying the illegal drug trade in and out of the district for long deceiving the law enforcers.
The detained persons were handed over to police and a case was lodged with the respective police station in this connection, M Abul Hashem, Company Commander of RAB-12 confirmed the matter to the Daily Sky on Thursday noon through a press briefing.
