The Cabinet has approved a proposal for a five-day holiday on the occasion of Durga Puja. At the same time, a decision has been taken to declare 7 November a general holiday every year to mark “National Revolution and Solidarity Day.”
The decision was made on Monday at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
According to the government holiday list, a holiday for Navami on Tuesday, 20 October, has already been declared by executive order. The following day, Wednesday, 21 October, is a public holiday for Bijoya Dashami.
Thursday, 22 October, will now also be a holiday by executive order. Consequently, holidays will be observed from 20 to 22 October for Durga Puja.
As 23 and 24 October fall on Friday and Saturday – the weekly holidays – the approval of the 22 October holiday means there will be five consecutive days off, from 20 to 24 October.
Ahead of this break, offices will remain open on Saturday, 17 October, which would otherwise be a weekly holiday.
This new schedule has been determined as part of rescheduling previously declared general holidays and executive order public holidays for Durga Puja.
Meanwhile, it has been decided that 7 November will be a general holiday every year on the occasion of “National Revolution and Solidarity Day.”
The Cabinet Division has also decided to include 7 November as a Class “A” day in the circular concerning the observance of national and international days. Consequently, the day will be observed every year as “National Revolution and Solidarity Day.”
The relevant government decision states that the general holiday on 7 November and its classification will be reflected in the circular regarding the observance of national and international days.
