Unidentified miscreants allegedly set fire to a CNG-run auto-rickshaw parked in the courtyard of a house in Chaknur Madhyapara area of Pangasi union under Raiganj upazila in Sirajganj early Saturday.
 
The incident took place at Monirul Islam’s house around 2am, leaving the vehicle completely gutted.
 
Monirul, 40, supports his family solely by driving the auto-rickshaw.
 
According to locals, Monirul drove the auto-rickshaw throughout Friday to earn a living. He parked it in the courtyard after returning home at night and went to sleep.
 
Hearing the family’s cries, neighbours rushed to the spot and tried to douse the flames, but the auto-rickshaw was completely burnt.
 
Raiganj Police Station Officer-in-charge Ahsanuzzaman told The Daily Sky that he was unaware about the incident.
 
“If such an incident had occurred, police would visit the spot and take necessary legal action,” he added.
