The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Bangladesh following the execution of two Bangladeshi expatriates in the kingdom.

The ministry summoned the ambassador on Sunday (October 18). Foreign ministry sources stated that the government sought detailed information regarding the decapitation of the two Bangladeshi nationals.

Earlier on Saturday afternoon, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obayed Islam noted that the government had not yet received official details regarding the execution orders of the two Bangladeshis. However, Bangladesh issued an official letter seeking formal clarification, with the state minister describing the execution of two Bangladeshis in Saudi Arabia as a "major lesson for us."

Shama Obayed mentioned that according to messages received from the labor wing of the Bangladesh Mission in Saudi Arabia, the two Bangladeshis engaged in an "immoral act" inside a mosque in Makkah, which constitutes a severe offense under Saudi law.

The Saudi court took action in line with those laws, though the Bangladesh government has not formally received full official documentation. Consequently, Bangladesh dispatched a letter seeking complete details regarding the two individuals.

Shama Obayed added that once Saudi Arabia responds to the official letter, details regarding the repatriation procedure for the bodies will become clear.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), citing the Saudi Ministry of Interior, confirmed the execution of the two Bangladeshi nationals. The two executed Bangladeshis were identified as Nazrul Islam and Sweety Akhter.
