The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested Dilip Kumar Agarwala, managing director of Diamond World. He was arrested from Banani at 6pm on Monday evening.
Confirming the matter, Shafiqul Islam, additional commissioner (DB chief) of DMP, said there is a case against him with the CID. He added that Agarwala was arrested from Banani at 6pm at the request of the CID in connection with that case.
However, the official did not provide any information regarding what the case in the CID involves.
Earlier, following the fall of Awami League regime, the then Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Dilip Kumar Agarwala on 3 September 2024 on charges of gold and diamond smuggling, fraud, forgery, and money laundering.
On that day at midnight, RAB conducted a raid surrounding the Diamond World office in Gulshan.
Later, he was shown arrested in a case over the murder of a teenager named Hridoy Ahmed in Badda, Dhaka, during the quota reform movement. Police also took him into custody and interrogated him. He subsequently came out on bail.
