Four people died and three others were injured in two separate road accidents in Sirajganj and Bagerhat districts on Monday night and early Tuesday, according to police.
The deceased have been identified as Tarek, a private car driver, and his assistant Riad from Daudkandi upazila in Cumilla; student Abdul Hakim, 22; and businessman Sourav Ali, 32, from Sadar upazila in Sirajganj.
Officer-in-Charge Humayun Kabir of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station said that Hakim, driving a motorbike, collided with a stationary concrete mixer on the Sirajganj-Kazipur regional road in Pipulbaria Bazar around 9:00 pm, resulting in Sourav’s death on the spot. Hakim succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. The bodies were handed over to their families as there were no complaints from them.
In a separate incident, a private car headed for Bagerhat carrying five individuals, including Tarek and Riad, lost control and crashed into a roadside tree on the Khulna-Dhaka highway in the Madrasaghat area of Mollahat upazila early Tuesday. The crash killed the driver on the spot and injured four others.
Members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence rescued the injured and took them to the Upazila Health Complex, where Riad later passed away, said Mollahat Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Nuruzzaman Chanu.
The remaining injured were sent to Dhaka for further treatment.
