A case has been filed against 521 individuals in Tungipara, Gopalganj, for attacking police officers and vandalizing a police vehicle in an attempt to snatch a detainee suspected of being affiliated with the Awami League and Chhatra League.

The case, filed by Sub-Inspector (SI) Rabbi Morsalin of Tungipara police station on Monday afternoon, names 171 individuals, while 350 remain unidentified.

One suspect, Safayet Gazi, 35, has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Confirming the matter, Tungipara police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khorshed Alam said that on Sunday evening, local Awami League and Chhatra League leaders and activists were distributing leaflets promoting an Awami League event in front of Khan Saheb Sheikh Mosharraf Hossain School and College.

When police arrived and attempted to stop the distribution, an argument ensued.

During the confrontation, officers detained grocery trader Safayet Gazi on charges of obstructing police duties.

This led to an attack on law enforcement, with protesters vandalizing a police vehicle, blocking an officer, and assaulting police personnel.

The case was officially registered on Monday afternoon, with police continuing operations to apprehend those involved, OC Khorshed added.
