As law enforcement agencies analyze CCTV footage, forensic reports, and conflicting statements from companions, critical questions remain: Why did they visit the slum in the dead of night? Who pursued them, and what led to Sauri entering the river?
According to investigative findings and CCTV footage, Sauri, accompanied by his close friend Ahmed Shahriar Reza Deep and female companion Jerika Tasnim Disha, entered the Nest Restaurant & Bar in Sector 11, Uttara, at 10:17 PM on October 27. After spending more than an hour inside, the trio left the premises at 11:51 PM.
Police sources claim that Sauri consumed four "Ultra Strong" beers containing 16% alcohol during the visit, though staff noted no visible signs of intoxication. Witnesses and bar management indicated that Sauri was visibly distressed, requesting sad music and displaying signs of mental agitation.
Investigators learned that Sauri was grappling with personal friction, allegedly upset over Disha spending time with another individual. Just before leaving the bar, Sauri reportedly told Disha, "You shouldn't have done this."
Nest Bar General Manager and former Maritime Captain Hasan Habib noted that while he did not interact with Sauri that specific night, Sauri had frequented the establishment with the same group over the preceding three days, identifying himself during a previous encounter as a 77 Long Course officer currently working undercover for a prominent corporate group.
Leaving the bar, Sauri and Deep departed on a motorcycle toward the Haji Mazar Slum area in Tongi. CCTV footage records them entering Mazar Road at 12:52 AM on October 28, moving alongside other motorcycles.
Why two men ventured into a notorious, drug-frequented zone near the Turag River at midnight is a core focus of the probe. Intelligence gathered indicates that Sauri began shouting loudly inside the slum. The disturbance allegedly drew the attention of local drug dealers or criminal elements, leading to a heated confrontation and a subsequent pursuit of Sauri and Deep.
During interrogation, Deep claimed that under pursuit by unknown assailants, Sauri jumped into the Turag River to save himself, while Deep hid behind a concrete pillar. Deep stated that after being questioned by patrolling police officers, he was told to leave the area and eventually returned to his Mohammadpur residence.
Investigators have flagged several glaring discrepancies in Deep’s narrative:
Failure to Rescue or Report: Why did Deep abandon his friend without attempting rescue or immediately alerting law enforcement?
Shifting Testimonies: Naval police officials noted inconsistencies between Deep's initial statements and subsequent accounts.
Patrol Role: The actions of the on-duty police personnel stationed in the area that night are currently under formal review by Tongi West Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arifur Rahman.
To piece together the sequence of events, a Dhaka court granted a four-day remand for Jerika Tasnim Disha. Investigators are cross-referencing her statements with Deep's testimony, focusing on their communications before and after leaving the bar.

Naval Police Superintendent Abdullah Al Mamun stated:
"We must await the final autopsy and chemical analysis reports. A wide array of information is currently being verified. It is premature to draw definitive conclusions until the investigation is complete."
As investigators piece together the trail spanning an Uttara lounge, a Tongi slum, and the murky waters of the Turag River, the final hours of the former flight officer remain shrouded in unanswered questions.
