Dhaka and other parts of the country are likely to face severe gas shortages for four consecutive days from November 4 to 7 as an LNG terminal operated by Summit in Maheshkhali, Cox's Bazar, undergoes emergency maintenance.

During the period, gas pressure across the transmission network is expected to remain low, affecting households, industries and power plants, Petrobangla has warned.

The state-owned oil, gas and mineral resources corporation disclosed the information in a press release signed by its Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) Tarikul Islam Khan on Sunday (November 1).

According to the release, the terminal's regasification operations will remain completely suspended from 8AM on November 4 until 4PM on November 7.

As a result, daily gas supply to the national grid is expected to fall from the normal 920 million cubic feet to around 600 million cubic feet.

The temporary maintenance work will reduce gas supply to the national grid by an average of 320 million cubic feet per day, directly affecting household cooking, commercial and industrial production, and power generation.

Petrobangla sources said the maintenance was part of routine technical inspections aimed at ensuring the terminal's infrastructure continues to operate efficiently. A similar maintenance operation was carried out in December last year.
