Today marks the 53rd birthday of Moushumi, one of the most popular actresses in Bangladeshi cinema. Although the actress has been away from Dhaka for the past three years, her birthday continues to be celebrated by her fan clubs in the capital and elsewhere across the country.
 
Her husband, actor Omar Sani, also has special plans to mark the occasion every year. This year, the Moushumi Fan Club has arranged a special celebration in the capital’s Farmgate area this afternoon.
 
Talking about the event, Omar Sani said, “My wife and daughter have asked me to arrange a special prayer on behalf of myself and the family. I will attend the fan club’s programme as the chief guest. That is all.”
 
Arifa Pervin Zaman, popularly known as Moushumi, is one of the most celebrated actors of the country. Born on 3 November 1973, Moushumi won the Anonda Bichittra Photo Beauty Contest in 1990, which led to appearances in television commercials.    
 
The three-time National Film Award-winning actor made her silver screen debut in 1993 with the movie “Keyamat Thake Keyamat”. In 1996, she took a break from acting and announced her engagement to actor Omar Sani. After six months, she returned to acting. The couple has two children.
 
Noushumi has acted in over 150 films and made her directorial debut with “Kokhono Megh Kokhono Brishti” in 2003.
 
In 1997, Moushumi started a production house named “Kopotakhsma Cholochitra”. She also founded Moushumi Welfare Foundation for women and children welfare and was named a UNICEF goodwill ambassador in 2013.
