Six more children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours till Tuesday morning, taking the number of deaths among suspected cases to 1,032 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the fatalities, two were reported each in Dhaka and Chattogram, and one each in Barishal and Khulna. No death from confirmed measles was reported during the period.
Health authorities reported 1,291 new suspected measles cases and confirmed 102 cases, according to a DGHS bulletin issued on Tuesday.
Since 15 March, a total of 1,99,013 suspected measles cases have been identified nationwide, of which 21,910 have been confirmed.
During the period, 1,76,516 suspected measles patients were admitted to hospitals and 1,69,290 were discharged.
In the past 24 hours, 1,180 suspected cases were admitted to hospitals, while 1,148 patients were discharged.
Since 15 March, however, 102 of the 1,032 deaths among suspected cases have been confirmed as measles-related.
Dhaka reported the highest number of suspected cases in the past 24 hours, with 486, followed by Chattogram with 260, Sylhet 164, Barishal 123, Khulna 111, Mymensingh 85, Rangpur 35 and Rajshahi 27.
Dhaka also recorded the highest number of confirmed cases, with 82, followed by Chattogram with 13 and Rangpur with seven.
Meanwhile, 2,04,22,559 people have been vaccinated under this year’s national measles-rubella vaccination campaign against a target of 1,80,15,064, taking overall coverage to 113.4 per cent.
