A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants against actor Pori Moni and her costume designer, Junaid Bogdadi Jimmy, in a case filed over allegations of assault, vandalism and intimidation.
Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman passed the order on Wednesday afternoon after a hearing.
Alamgir, bench assistant of the court, confirmed the development, saying the court rejected a time petition filed by the defence and cancelled the accused’s bail. The court also set December 23 for recording witness statements.
The plaintiff appeared before the court on Wednesday and sought cancellation of the accused’s bail. No defence lawyer was present during the hearing.
On March 18, 2024, investigation officer Inspector Md Monir Hossain of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Dhaka district, submitted a report to the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court, finding the allegations of assault and intimidation against Pori Moni and her costume designer, Junaid Bogdadi Jimmy, also known as Jim, to be true.
However, the investigation found no evidence against another accused, Fatema Tuz Jannat Boni.
On January 26 last year, the court framed charges in the case and ordered the trial to begin.
Nasir Uddin filed the case with a Dhaka court on July 6, 2022.
According to the case statement, Pori Moni and her associates allegedly entered various high-end clubs, consumed alcohol and took away parcels without paying.
The statement also alleged that Pori Moni threatened to harass the plaintiff by filing false cases through police officers known to her.
It said that shortly after midnight on June 9, 2021, the accused entered Savar Boat Club and used a washroom on the second floor before sitting inside the club and consuming alcohol.
At around 1:15am, as the plaintiff and his associate Shah Shahidul Alam were leaving the club, Pori Moni allegedly called Nasir Uddin and asked him to sit with them for a while.
She allegedly made obscene gestures towards him and pressured him to provide a bottle of Blue Label alcohol free of charge.
When he refused, Pori Moni allegedly abused him verbally. During an argument, she allegedly threw a serving glass and her mobile phone at him, injuring his head and chest.
The case statement further alleged that Pori Moni and her associates assaulted Nasir Uddin, vandalised property and threatened to kill him.
Following the incident, Pori Moni filed a case with Savar police station against Nasir Uddin and another person, accusing them of attempted rape and attempted murder.
The case is currently pending before Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-9.
