A legal notice has been sent to National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam, demanding the withdrawal of a recent statement made against Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Supreme Court lawyer Md. Habibur Rahman issued the notice on Thursday (November 5).
According to the notice, Nahid Islam stated during a TV broadcast on October 30 that "Tarique Rahman has arrived for extortion and looting; he has no plan to govern the country." The notice directs Nahid Islam to withdraw the statement and submit a written reply within 10 days of receipt, failing which legal proceedings will be initiated against him.
In the notice, lawyer Habibur Rahman argued that Nahid Islam's comments were unacceptable, baseless, and reflected political incompetence. He noted that the remarks caused him severe embarrassment, pain, and indignation.
The notice further emphasized that making such statements while holding key positions like NCP Convener and Opposition Chief Whip runs contrary to national expectations, adding that Nahid Islam ought to issue an apology to the nation for his remarks.
