Investigators also say the information Dwip provided is being kept confidential and verified, while the case remains under investigation.
A Dhaka court on Thursday (November-5) placed Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dwip, described as a "friend-like younger brother" of former air force officer Tahsif Sauri, on a fresh three-day remand in the murder case filed over Tahsif's death.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam passed the order. State lawyer Omar Faruk Faruki confirmed the matter.
Earlier in the day, Dwip was produced before the court after the end of his seven-day remand in the second phase. Investigation Officer Firoz Uddin, an inspector at the Tongi River Police Outpost, sought another seven days of remand for Dwip.
According to the remand plea, the investigation officer said Dwip had provided several important pieces of information about the incident during questioning.
The information is being kept confidential and is being verified in the interest of the investigation.
But Dwip had been avoiding answering several questions and maintaining silence, despite being questioned, the application said, describing him as "highly cunning".
The application also said investigators had found evidence suggesting that the two arrested suspects -- Dwip and Jerika Tasnim Disha, 19 -- were involved in the incident in some way.
It added that the investigation was still ongoing and that Dwip needed to be questioned intensively to uncover the motive, identify and arrest those actually involved, and advance the investigation.
The investigating officer further argued that Dwip could flee and hamper the investigation if released on bail.
Lawyers representing Dwip opposed the remand plea and sought its cancellation, while the prosecution argued in favour of further questioning. After hearing both sides, the court placed him on a fresh three-day remand.
Earlier, the court had granted him four days of remand on 31 October, followed by another three days on 3 November.
According to the case documents, Tahsif went missing after leaving home on the evening of 27 October in response to a call from Dwip, described as his junior friend. The following afternoon, River Police recovered his body from the Rajabari Ghat area of the Turag River.
On 29 October, the Police Bureau of Investigation took Dwip into custody for questioning over Souri's death.
On 30 October, Tahsif's father, KM Enayetul Karim, filed a murder case against unidentified persons at Uttarkhan Police Station. Police later showed Dwip arrested in connection with the case as a suspect.
