Chattogram Port Authority has prohibited unauthorised photography, videography, sketching and collection or dissemination of visual information concerning the port’s sensitive installations, security systems and critical infrastructure.
The authority also warned against publishing or sharing such information through social media, online platforms, mass media or any other medium without prior approval.
The directive was issued in a press release on Tuesday, October 6, signed by Syed Refayet Hamim, Secretary of the Chattogram Port Authority.
The authority said Chattogram Port is the country’s principal maritime gateway and a vital hub for the national economy, import-export activities and international trade. Its operations are conducted in accordance with international standards and national security regulations.
As a port compliant with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, Chattogram Port has achieved “Zero Observation,” the authority said.
It further added that the port has been designated as a Class-A Key Point Installation (KPI), making the protection of its security, critical infrastructure and sensitive facilities a matter of national interest.
Under Section 12 of the Chattogram Port Authority Act, 2022, all locations and facilities within the port boundaries are considered restricted port areas to ensure the smooth operation of the port and regulate public access, according to the release.
The authority also referred to the Official Secrets Act, 1923, under which unauthorized capture, publication or dissemination of sensitive locations, information, designs, photographs or other data related to state security and interests may constitute a punishable offence.
The authority said prior approval is required before publishing or disseminating information relating to the port’s security arrangements, restricted areas, surveillance capabilities, facility layouts or operational details.
The prohibition covers unauthorised photography, videography and sketching of sensitive installations, security arrangements, critical infrastructure, access and control systems, surveillance facilities, communication networks, vessel and cargo handling operations and other sensitive areas.
The authority has particularly instructed all concerned to strictly refrain from unauthorized activities involving KPIs, restricted areas and security-related facilities.
It urged port users and all relevant stakeholders to comply with the security guidelines.
The authority warned that if port security is compromised through unauthorized disclosure or dissemination of sensitive information, strict action will be taken against those responsible under applicable laws, security regulations and existing directives of the Chattogram Port Authority.
