Yasin Ahmed, Naogaon:
BNP Chairperson’s advisor, veteran freedom fighter Abdus Salam said, “Many say that this administration will not be able to complete the elections smoothly. We say that, the people are ready for the elections. The people will not allow this election to be rigged, the people will not only vote, but will guard every polling station after voting. On behalf of our party, we will say that, we will provide 100 percent cooperation to hold a free, fair and transparent election.”
He said these at a press conference organized at the district BNP office on the occasion of the biennial conference of Naogaon district BNP around 10:00 pm on Sunday (August 10).
He further said, “We believe that the people will be by our side in the elections. We think that those who talk about postponing the elections do not want to do politics for the country.”
Abdus Salam also said, on the orders of our leader, our chairman Tarique Rahman, we guarded the temple during Durga Puja. For 17 years, the Awami League has occupied the houses of our leaders and activists, occupied their businesses, disappeared and killed our leaders and activists. We believe that, the people will be with us in the elections too. I will also tell all the protesting parties that were with us, I will also tell the students, let us go to the people. The people never make mistakes. The people did not make mistakes in 62, 69, 70, 75, 90 and 24. Therefore, we have to trust the people. We want to go to the elections with trust in the people. You too come. Our leader patriot Tarique Rahman has said that, even if the people vote for BNP and bring it to power alone, we still want to run the government with all the parties to repair the state.
The press conference was chaired by Naogaon District BNP Acting Convener SM Rezaul Islam Rezu, while central and local leaders including Biennial Conference Steering Committee Chief Coordinator and Bogura District BNP President Rezaul Karim Badsha, former Bogura-4 MP Mosharraf Hossain were also present.
