Three members of the same family were rescued after about 6 and a half hours after a hill collapsed in the Chamelibagh area of Sylhet city. The rescue work started from 8 am today Monday, their bodies were recovered around 1:30 pm.
These three are Agha Karim Uddin (34), his wife Shammi Akhtar (26) and two-year-old child Tanim of Chamelibag area.
Earlier, seven members of the same family were crushed to the ground after a hill collapsed in the Chamelibagh area around 7 am. Locals immediately rescued four people. On receiving the information, fire service, police, and city corporation workers started the rescue operation for the remaining 3 people. Later, the army joined the rescue operation.
Deputy Director of Sylhet Fire Service, Moniruzzaman said that three teams of fire service participated in the rescue operation. Army personnel were also with them.
Sylhet has been experiencing heavy downpours for the past few days while several areas of the district have already been flooded. A landslide occurred in the Chamelibagh area of Ward No. 36 due to heavy rain. At that time, six members of a family were crushed under a tin shed house next to the hill.
