The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved DNA tests to confirm the biological parents of Kamal Hossain, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Nachol in Chapainawabganj, following allegations that he falsely claimed freedom fighter status of relatives to secure employment.

ACC Director General Akhter Hossain disclosed the matter at a briefing on Tuesday.

According to the Commission, Kamal Hossain is accused of fraudulently obtaining a position in the administration cadre under the freedom fighter quota in the 35th BCS examination.

Officials said Kamal Hossain allegedly presented his uncle, freedom fighter Ahsan Habib, and aunt Sanoara Khatun as his parents instead of his biological father, Abul Kashem, and mother, Habia Khatun, to secure benefits such as university admission and government employment.

“The accused committed gross deception and forgery, undermining the spirit of the Liberation War,” ACC official said.

Currently serving as senior assistant secretary and UNO of Nachol, Kamal Hossain previously worked as Senior Assistant Commissioner at the Magura Deputy Commissioner’s Office and as UNO of Atrai Upazila in Naogaon district.

The ACC said the case remains under investigation. To ensure a fair inquiry, the investigating officer submitted a petition seeking approval to conduct DNA tests of Kamal Hossain, his biological parents, and his uncle and aunt. The Commission has now granted permission, with the tests to be conducted subject to the approval of the competent court.

The outcome of the DNA tests is expected to play a crucial role in determining whether Kamal Hossain unlawfully benefited from the freedom fighter quota.
