Highway dacoity raises safety concern in drivers, passengers

A furious dacoity incident that went viral through social media has raised safety concern among the travelers on highway across the country.

Preliminarily, it seems that, the incident may have been taken place in publicly by stopping a private car on the Dhaka-North Bengal Highway near Kodda intersection and also western side of the Jamuna Bridge in Sirajganj district on Friday night.

It is suspected that the driver and passengers of the private car were also injured.

The partial incident of the dacoity was recorded by a passenger of another car from behind and shared on social media that went viral.

According to the video footage shared on social media facebook, it was noticed that, a group of dacoits equipped with lethal weapons were engaged in looting the valuables from the driver and passengers of a private car after intercepting it on the roadside.”

“The dacoits were wearing knee-length lungis, but they had no clothes on and each of them was carrying a three to four foot long Ramada or chopper.

While contacted, Asaduzzaman, Officer in Charge of Jamuna Bridge Western Thana told The Daily Sky that, “No one has filed any complaint with the police station in this connection. However, we are trying to find out the real fact. Even, we are still not sure where the incident actually took place.”
