Journo among 4 killed in Sirajganj road mishaps

At least four persons, including a local Jamaat-e-Islami leader and also journalist were killed in three separate road accidents in Sirajganj on Monday evening.

The deceased were identified as Abul Kalam Biswas, Nayeb-e-Ameer of Raiganj Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami and convener of Raiganj Press Club; Abdul Hannan Khan, 35, and his 3-year-old daughter Hafsa Khatun of Bahuti village in Sirajganj Sadar upazila and Nur Nabi Hossain, 55, from Char Nobipur village in Shahjadpur upazila.

Khorshed Alam, a member of Raiganj Press Club and brother-in-law of the deceased Jamaat leader said Abul Kalam Biswas was returning home on a motorcycle after attending a Jamaat education camp in Bogura. He lost control of the bike near the Sonka area on the Bogura–Sirajganj highway and hit a road divider. He was critically injured and later died at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura.

Abul Kalam Biswas was also a teacher at Raiganj Mohila Madrasa, Upazila Correspondent of The Weekly Sonar Bangla and Convener of Raiganj Press Club.

Another accident took place at Sat Tikri area under Solonga thana in Ullapara upazila of the district, when a truck hit a motorbike from behind leaving the biker’s daughter Hafsa Khatun dead on the spot. Biker

Biker Hannan, his wife Brishti Khatun and son Hamza were taken to Sirajganj General Hospital, where Hannan succumbed to his injuries at night.

Another accident took place at Kawak intersection in Ullapara, when a cement-laden truck ran over a pedestrian namely Nur Nabi Hossain leaving him dead on the spot.

Police seized the vehicle, but the driver fled the scene, police said.
