The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has submitted a charge-sheet to the court against 16 persons including former Awami League Parliament Member (MP) Habib-e-Millat Munna in a case filed for killing of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Enamul Haque Bijoy.

Sirajganj Sadar Administrative Court GRO Jewel Rana confirmed the matter on Monday (November 3) afternoon.

He said that, the hearing over the charge-sheet may be held on December 14, as the next date of the case hearing has been fixed on that day.

There are names of 16 persons in the charge-sheet submitted by the CID. Of them, four are on bail, while the remaining 12 are still absconding.

The accused are former MP of Sirajganj-2 (Sadar-Kamarkhand) constituency and former acting general secretary of the district Awami League Habib-e-Millat Munna, President of the Municipal Awami League, Editor and Publisher of The Daily Juger Kotha Helal Uddin, President of district BCL Ahsan Habib Khoka, former Organizing Secretary of the district BCL Shihab Ahmed Jihad, Jubo League leader Emdadul Haque Emdad, Chhatra League leader Ashiqur Rahman Bijoy, Al-Amin, Zahidul Islam, Sabbir Hossain, Sohag, Parvez Reza, Tarikuzzaman Lyon, Mamun, Rashidul Hasan Rashed, Zubayer Hossain and Al-Amin Babu.

Earlier, on April 13, 2021, the District Detective Branch (DB) filed a charge sheet against 12 people in the first phase. However, in that charge sheet, Municipal Awami League President and journalist Helal Uddin, District Chhatra League President Ahsan Habib Khoka and Jubo League leader Emdadul Haque Emdad were excluded.

When the family of the deceased Bijoy filed an objection against that charge-sheet, the court ordered for further investigation into the case. Later, on November 3, 2022, the court gave the responsibility of the investigation to the CID. After a long investigation, the CID finally filed this new charge-sheet accusing 16 persons.

The deceased Enamul Haque Bijoy was the President of the Bangladesh Chhatra League of Haji Karop Ali Government College branch of Kamarkhand upazila and the son of Abdul Kader of Chala village in the Kamarkhand upazila.

According to the case report, Bijoy left his house on the afternoon of June 16, 2020, to attend the memorial rally of former Health Minister Mohammad Nasim. When he reached the town’s Baza’ar Station area, he was attacked by district Chhatra League leaders Shihab Ahmed Jihad, Al-Amin, Ashikur Rahman Bijoy and others.

At that time, he was seriously injured by a sharp weapon. He was first admitted to Sirajganj General Hospital and later to the Neuro Science Hospital in Dhaka. After battling with death for nine days, Bijoy breathed his last on July 5, 2020.
