The bodies of two Bangladeshis killed in an attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will be brought home at state expense, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has said.
Speaking to journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday afternoon, she said four other Bangladeshis injured in the attack were receiving treatment in intensive care units (ICUs).
The state minister confirmed that two Bangladeshi nationals had been killed in the attack and that the government would bear the cost of repatriating their bodies.
Earlier, the Bangladesh government strongly condemned the attack on Riyadh airport, which took place on Saturday, October 10, leaving two Bangladeshis dead and several others injured, some of them in critical condition.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Bangladesh mission in Riyadh was in contact with Saudi authorities to gather detailed information about the deceased and injured and ensure necessary assistance for those affected.
The government expressed deep sorrow and sincere condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy and full recovery.
The statement said attacks that endanger civilian lives or target civilian infrastructure were unacceptable and must stop immediately. Bangladesh also reaffirmed its strong solidarity with the government and people of Saudi Arabia.
Against the backdrop of the ongoing crisis, Bangladesh called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, protection of civilians and infrastructure, and a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy in the interests of regional peace, security and stability.
