Five years after their last on-screen collaboration, Nayanthara and Rajinikanth are set to share the screen again in Dharman, the upcoming Tamil film backed by Kamal Haasan’s production house, Raaj Kamal Films International, writes NDTV.
The production house announced Nayanthara’s inclusion in the cast on Sunday, 25 October, unveiling a poster featuring her and Rajinikanth facing each other in a dimly lit corridor. The announcement carried the caption, “THE AURA IS DOUBLE”, welcoming the actor to the project.
Nayanthara also reacted to the news on X, writing, “OnToTheNext with One and Only Superstar.”
The reunion comes five years after the pair appeared together in Annaatthe (2021). They have previously shared screen space in films including Chandramukhi (2005), Kuselan (2008) and Darbar (2020).
Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, Dharman has undergone several changes in its directorial lineup before production began. Rajinikanth previously revealed that three other filmmakers had been considered for the project before Marimuthu took charge.
The actor explained that the team initially approached Ravikumar, followed by Sundar C and then Cibi Chakravarthi. However, scheduling difficulties and concerns over the sensitivity and production demands of a proposed story about a nuclear scientist and nuclear weapons led to changes in the plans before the team settled on Marimuthu.
Produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International, Dharman has completed several shooting schedules since production began earlier this year. The film is expected to reach cinemas in 2027, although the makers have yet to announce an official release date.
The cast also includes Simran and Raashii Khanna. Further details about Nayanthara’s character and the film’s storyline remain undisclosed.
Meanwhile, Nayanthara is set to reprise her role in Mookuthi Amman 2, the follow-up to the 2020 film. The sequel is scheduled for theatrical release on 6 November 2026.
