Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud stated on Sunday, November 1, that the government hopes to reduce load-shedding during the upcoming summer by incorporating solar energy.

He made the remarks at a press conference held at Bijoy Hall in Bidyut Bhaban, organized to share details about the upcoming "Bangladesh Solar Expo 2026," scheduled for November 3–4 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center.

The minister stated that the government has been actively working on solar energy initiatives over the past eight months and encouraging citizens to adopt renewable solutions. He highlighted that this marks the first government-backed solar expo of its kind, with the Prime Minister scheduled to attend. He noted that the Prime Minister herself has transitioned off-grid and no longer relies on grid electricity at her residence.

Pointing out that traditional energy costs have surged to $32, the minister emphasized the necessity of transitioning to solar power as a sustainable way forward.

State Minister for Power Anindya Islam Amit and senior officials of the Power Division were also present at the press conference.
