Jewel Hassan, a Junior Field Officer at the Madhupur branch of the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) ‘Jagorani Chakra Foundation’, has been terminated from his position following allegations of involvement in an extramarital affair and other antisocial activities.
The matter was confirmed on Wednesday (Nov 4) by Abdul Hannan, the Zonal Manager of the organization’s Sirajganj division.
Highlighting the organization’s zero-tolerance policy regarding ethical misconduct, Abdul Hannan stated, “Jagorani Chakra Foundation is a reputable development organization primarily working for the socioeconomic upliftment of general citizens. Therefore, we treat the moral and character integrity of our employees with the utmost seriousness.”
He added that, the organization took notice of the situation after objectionable photographs and videos involving the officer began circulating widely on social media platforms.
Shortly after, Jewel submitted a resignation request, which was formally accepted and approved by the authority on Wednesday. However, as the NGO operates financial services, the process of auditing and reconciling his financial accounts remains ongoing before final clearance.
Background of the Incident:
Jewel Hassan, son of Juran Sheikh from Chaknur village in Raiganj Upazila of Sirajganj district, was posted as a Junior Field Officer at the Madhupur branch under the organization’s Sirajganj zone.
During his tenure, allegations surfaced that he became involved in an extramarital relationship with a married mother of two from his local area.
The affair recently culminated in local residents apprehending the duo red-handed during an unsanctioned meeting. Although the matter was initially settled locally through a monetary compromise, photos and video footage of the incident subsequently leaked onto Facebook and other social media outlets.
The resulting public outcry and criticism online prompted the management of the Jagorani Chakra Foundation to take swift administrative action, leading to his discharge from service.
