Tk1.014m found in donation box at Shah Sharif Zindani shrine

A total of Tk1.014 million was found in the donation box of the historic Shah Sharif Zindani (RA) shrine in Naogaon Union of Tarash upazila in Sirajganj after it was opened and the money counted on Monday.
The donation box was opened after Zuhr prayers in accordance with the established procedure, and the counting continued throughout the day. The final amount was confirmed at around 9:30pm after the counting was completed.
Members of the shrine management committee and local residents said the donation box is opened every three months under the prescribed rules. On Monday, the box was unlocked in the presence of the concerned officials and committee members before the donated money was counted.
Tarash Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and president of the shrine management committee Nusrat Jahan, general secretary Md Omar Faruk and other concerned officials were present during the counting.
Following the counting, the entire amount was kept in the custody of Tarash Police for security reasons.
Speaking on Tuesday, UNO Nusrat Jahan said the donation box had been opened after three months as per the rules and Tk1.014 million was found inside.
“The money will be deposited into the designated bank account,” she said.
She added that the funds collected through the donation box are used for the development, renovation and maintenance of the shrine, as well as other necessary activities. Donations are also provided to poor and disadvantaged people at different times in accordance with the prescribed rules.
“Importance is given to ensuring that the donated money is used transparently and in accordance with the established rules and procedures,” she said.
Md Omar Faruk, general secretary of the shrine management committee, said the donation box was opened after three months and Tk1.014 million was found after the counting was completed.
He said the money was deposited in a bank in the upazila headquarters on Tuesday morning under tight police security.
The shrine authorities said the donated money would be deposited into the designated bank account following the prescribed procedures. The funds will subsequently be used, as necessary, for the shrine’s development and maintenance, as well as various public welfare activities.
