Veteran actor and ‘Nirapad Sarak Chai’ movement founder Illias Kanchan has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumor and is currently undergoing treatment at Harley Street Clinic in London under the supervision of oncologist Dr Vinay. He underwent brain surgery in August and is now receiving targeted therapy.
The news, first shared late last month by his son Miraz Moin Joy, has since sparked concern among fans and colleagues of the celebrated actor.
Recently, celebrated Dhallywood actress Rozina, known for sharing the screen in numerous films with Kanchan as the lead duo, met Ilias Kanchan in London. She revealed that she had learned about his health much earlier, back in July.
“I came to know in July that Kanchan bhai had been diagnosed with a brain tumor,” Rozina told the media recently. “At that time, I was in London and later had to fly to Canada, but I kept in touch with his family regularly to check on his treatment progress.”
Rozina said she finally met Kanchan in mid-September during her visit to London. “I went to his daughter’s home and met him there. We chatted, took some photos, and despite his illness, I found him mentally very strong,” she said.
She added, “Though he looked a bit frail, Kanchan bhai was still able to stand and pray regularly. Since this is a brain disease, he sometimes forgets things; but overall, I found him doing well.”
Reflecting on their long professional relationship, Rozina expressed deep respect and affection for her longtime co-star. “I’ve done many films with Ilias Kanchan; and we’re from the same era. His dedication, passion, and perseverance made him one of the most beloved figures among audiences. Beyond his career, Kanchan is an extraordinary human being; calm, courteous, and profoundly compassionate.”
One of the most popular on-screen duos in Dhallywood, Rozina-Ilias Kanchan starred together in several films, including ‘Reshmi Churi’ (1981), ‘Radha Krishno’ (1985) and ‘Bishkonnar Prem’ (1986), among others.
