BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has called for tightening the reins on corruption at any cost to ensure the country’s development.

He made the call on Sunday while delivering the keynote speech at a discussion meeting under the BNP’s programme titled “Plan to Build the Country.”

Tarique Rahman said, “We must tighten the reins on corruption at any cost, and we must improve the law and order situation at any cost. Otherwise, the country will suffer. If we are able to form the government, we must begin by tightening the reins on corruption and the law and order situation.”

He claimed that only the BNP can curb corruption in the country. “We have tightened the reins before, and we can do it again in the future,” he said.

Tarique Rahman alleged that just as autocrats once carried out propaganda against the BNP, one particular party is now doing the same.

“Two people from that party served as ministers during the BNP’s tenure. They were senior figures who have passed away. They trusted Khaleda Zia until their last days because of her stance against corruption.”

He also called on the people of the country to come forward in unity.

He said, “To build the country, to transform people’s conditions for the better, everyone must work shoulder to shoulder. The times ahead will not be easy—difficult days are coming. Various conspiracies are ongoing in different ways. With the people beside us, the BNP can resist these conspiracies. Only democracy can defeat all conspiracies.”

He alleged that disorder now prevails in every sector.
