BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the leaders and activists to keep faith in the party’s leadership, assuring that those who did not receive nominations for the upcoming election will be given due responsibility and respect.
In a Facebook post around 1:07pm on Tuesday Fakhrul expressed his gratitude to BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman and other leaders for nominating him to contest from Thakurgaon-1 constituency in the upcoming national election.
“This election may be my last election!” he wrote.
The senior BNP leader recalled his personal struggles mentioning how he rejoined politics in 1987 when his daughters were very young and his family faced great uncertainty.
Fakhrul said every long-time BNP activist has similar untold stories of dedication and sacrifice for the party.
“Those who did not get the nomination, have faith — In Sha Allah (God permits), the party will give you due responsibility and respect!” he wrote.
He urged supporters to pray for him and for all BNP leaders and activists, vowing that the party would continue to stand by the people.
Fakhrul said BNP has the capability to lead the nation forward with dignity.
The BNP on Monday unveiled a list of potential candidates for 237 constituencies, including three for its chairperson Khaleda Zia and one for acting chairman Tarique Rahman.
Following the announcement, supporters of deprived nomination seekers have taken to the streets, blocking highways, and setting tyres ablaze in anger.
