A man was killed after a truck hit his battery-run van at Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district on Friday morning.

The accident occurred at Dhopakandi Bridge area on the Hatikumrul-Dhaka-Pabna highway in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Ranju Ahmed, 35, son of Yasin Ali, a resident of Chariashika Dakshin Para village in the same upazila. He used to earn his living by driving a battery-run van.

According to police, Ranju was crossing the road in the wrong direction with his van loaded with fish when a speeding truck hit the van, leaving it mangled and Ranju dead on the spot.

Confirming the incident, Hatikumrul Highway Police Station in charge Ismail Hossain said that as there was no complaint filed, police handed over the body to the family.
