The special taskforce formulated by Commerce Ministry fined a total of Tk 33,000 to 10 business establishments in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district on Wednesday.

The drive was conducted led by Mahmud Hasan Roni, Assistant Director (Additional charge) of the Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection in Sirajganj in collaboration with Ullapara upazila administration and other concerned officials.

Among others, Mohammad Shamim Akhtar, Veterinary Surgeon, two representatives of Anti-discrimination Student Movement and members of Sirajganj police lines were also present there during the drive.

Mahmud Hasan Roni said, “The drive was conducted to keep the market price stable. But, we noticed that, some unscrupulous businessmen were realizing additional prices against different essential commodities like eggs and chicken. As per the rule and provision, we have brought them under punishment.
