10 Chowhali teachers sent to jail

10 teachers, who were arrested on Wednesday for manipulation in SSC exam in Chowhali, were sent to Jail through a court in Sirajganj on Thursday.

Police arrested them from a center in Chowhali upazila of Sirajganj district on charge of preparing and distributing answers sheets of the SSC exam questions to the students. The answer sheets were distributed during the examination of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the Khashkaulia Siddiquea Fazil Madrasa centre in the upazila.

The 10 arrested are: Akdas Hossain, 40, Rafiqul Islam, 52, Shariful Islam, 43, Shafiqul Islam, 44, Abdul Baten, 45, Md. Anwar, 36, Jaber Ali, 41, Jahangir Alam, 51, Mostaq Ahmed, 36, and Abul Kalam, 41.

According to police and eyewitness sources, Akdas Hossain, a chemistry teacher at Khashkaulia Siddique Fazil Madrasa in Chowhali Upazila, prepared answers to the ‘K’ set of the exam’s impersonal questions and distributed them to other rooms of the centre. After that, the answer sheets were distributed to the examinees through various teachers. After receiving a complaint in this regard, Chowhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mostafizur Rahman visited the centre. He ordered the centre authorities to take action after finding evidence of the complaint. Later, the police brought 10 teachers, who were in charge of the centre, to the police station.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chowhali Police Station Shakhawat Hossain said that in this incident, the centre secretary Md. Nuruzzaman filed a case with the police station as the plaintiff. The arrested were sent to jail through a court on Thursday.

UNO Mostafizur Rahman said, “Immediate action was taken after the matter was brought to my attention.”
