The administration has recovered 117 sacks of vulnerable women benefit (VWB) rice from a tin shed warehouse in Jamtail Bazar of Kamarkhand Upazila of Sirajganj district.
This rice was recovered in an operation led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Anamika Nazrul on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, a mobile court was conducted and recovered the government rice from the mentioned place. Each sack contained 30 kg of rice, which is a total of 3,510 kg. But no one was arrested in this connection during the drive.
Upazila Women’s Affairs Officer Selina Parveen was present at the spot during the operation.
The recovered rice has currently stored in Jamtail Union Parishad. Necessary legal action will be taken in this regard.
Upazila Executive Officer Anamika Nazrul said, “Preserving the VWB rice in a tin shed room is suspicious. Necessary measures will be taken after investigation. No one can escape the responsibility of concealing the rice allocated for the helpless and poor people of the society in this way.”
Meanwhile, the incident has created a sensation among the locals. People hope that those involved will be identified quickly and brought to justice and they called for ensuring that government assistance reaches the real beneficiaries.
