Following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 last year, the police force experienced a significant collapse. Many officers briefly returned to their posts before disappearing again. Some went on leave and never returned, while others vanished without applying for leave.

The government has temporarily suspended 13 senior police officers who have remained absent from duty for an extended period. The Public Security Division (Police-1 Branch) of the Ministry of Home Affairs issued 13 separate notifications in this regard on Sunday (June 29). The notifications, dated June 26, were signed by Deputy Secretary Nasimul Gani.

The suspended officers include Mohammad Sanowar Hossain, former SP of the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), currently attached to the DIG office of Barisal Range; Md Shahjahan, former SP of Rangpur district, currently attached to the DIG office of Chattogram Range; Golam Mostafa Russell, former SP of Narayanganj, now at the DIG office of Barisal Range; and SM Jahangir Hasan, Additional SP of the River Police.

Also suspended are Shah Alam Md Akhtarul Islam, former ADC of Ramna Division, now Additional SP at the Sylhet In-Service Training Center; SM Shamim, former ADC of DMP; Ifthekharul Islam, former ADC of DMP, now Additional SP at Cox’s Bazar APBn; and Mishu Biswas, former ADC of DMP Detective Branch, now Additional SP at the Jamalpur In-Service Training Centre.

The list further includes Hasanuzzaman Molya, Additional SP of Rangamati APBn; Rubaiyat Zaman, former ADC of Tejgaon Division, now Additional SP at the Sunamganj In-Service Training Centre; Masudur Rahman, acting company commander of RAB-8, Barisal, with the rank of Additional SP; Md Mahmudul Hasan, ASP at the Police Telecom Building in Rajarbagh; and Mohammad Imrul, ASP of the Ukhiya APBn in Cox’s Bazar.
