Dinajpur Correspondent:
A total of 130 maunds of various species of fish have been released into the historic Ramsagar Dighi in Dinajpur under an initiative taken by the district administration.
The fish release programme was held at 2:30 pm on Monday, with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rafiqul Islam attending the programme as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Rafiqul Islam said that fish of different species including Rui, Katla, and Silver Carp have been released into Ramsagar as part of a five-year plan to conserve biodiversity and meet the recreational and nutritional needs of the local population.
“In several phases, 130 maunds of fish have already been released. Some of these fish can grow up to 30 to 35 kilograms,” he said.
He added that Ramsagar attracts amateur fishermen annually for recreational fishing through wheel-based systems. Considering public interest and ecological balance, the district administration initiated the fish release programme.
Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Riaz Uddin, Divisional Forest Officer Anwar Hossain Sarkar, and District Fisheries Officer Tarequr Rahman were present during the event.
