14 ex-ministers, MPs banned from leaving country

A Dhaka court today banned a total of 14 former ministers and MPs leaving the country who were ousted in the mass movement on August 5.

Dhaka’s Senior Special Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain gave this order following ACC’s application on Thursday.

ACC Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir confirmed this.

The ministers are – former Social Welfare Minister Dr. Dipu Moni, former Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, former Health Minister Zahid Maleque, former Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumdar, former Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, former Industries Minister Kamal Ahmed Majumder, former Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan and former Food Minister Advocate Kamrul Islam.

The former MPs are- MPs Salim Uddin, Mamunur Rashid Kiran, Kujendra Lala Tripura, Kazim Uddin, Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury and Ziaur Rahman. On this day, ACC Deputy Director Abu Hena Ashiqur Rahman applied for ban on leaving the country.

It is said in the application that investigation is going on regarding the allegations of various irregularities and unimaginable illegal wealth acquisition through corruption against the former ministers and MPs of the previous government. Reliable sources have informed that they may leave the country and flee abroad. They need to be banned from travelling abroad for the sake of fair investigation.
