A fishing trawler has brought 195 maunds of ilish from the Bay of Bengal to the Aliapur Fish Landing Centre in Patuakhali.

The fish were brought to the M/s Five Star Fish auction house in Aliapur on Thursday evening.

The fish were sold through an auction on Friday morning to noon for a total of Tk40,14,000.

These fish were caught in the deep sea, 90km southeast of Kuakata, on Tuesday and Wednesday.

It has been reported that the FB Bismillah-1 fishing trawler, with 17 fishermen onboard, set off from the Aliapur dock on Monday for fishing.

After four days of fishing in various areas of the sea, the desired amount of fish was caught.

The fish were brought to the Aliapur Fish Landing Centre and sorted into three sizes.

Fish weighing 600 to 800 grams were sold for Tk40,000 per maund, fish weighing 400 to 500 grams were sold for Tk25,000 per maund and smaller fish were sold for Tk15,000 per maund.

Other fish species were sold for Tk54,000. In total, the fish were sold for Tk40,14,000.

The trawler’s captain, Eklas Gazi, said: “On Sunday, 17 fishermen and I went to sea from the Aliapur dock. We fished in the deep sea near Cox’s Bazar and caught these fish. Currently, fish are not being caught in the sea, but despite this, Allah has blessed us with fish.”

The owner of the FB Bismillah-1 trawler, Khalilur Rahman Khan, said: “For a long time, very few fish have been caught in the sea. We were facing losses. With the sale of these fish, we can recover some of the previous losses.”
