Police arrested two individuals for their alleged involvement in attacking on a police official at Patenga beach area in Chattogram city.
A press release, issued by Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Public Relations Department, confirmed the detentions on Saturday.
The arrested were identified as Simon, 27, and Ali Imad alias Tafsir Imad, 22.
According to police, some youths were taking drugs near the SAPL depot on the Outer Link Road adjacent to Patenga beach around 10:00 PM on Friday. Yusuf Ali, sub-inspector (SI) of Patenga Police Station, found them taking drugs while on duty in the area and interrogated them. They later pleaded guilty and apologised. They, at one point, were released.
They again came to the spot and snatched away the mobile phone, wallet and walkie-talkie after harassing the police official.
Being informed, Patenga Police Station officer-in-charge with the assistance of locals rescued Yusuf Ali from there.
A case has been lodged with the police station in this connection, said CMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (PR and Media) Mahmuda Begum.
