A court in Dhaka on Sunday placed two leaders of bannedBangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on one day remand each in a case lodged overalleged attempt to murder a Dhaka University (DU) student during the anti-discrimination students movement on July 15.The two remanded accused are BCL central joint general secretary and itsShaheed Sergeant Zahurul Huq Hall unit president Kamal Uddin Rana and itsSurja Sen Hall unit organizing secretary Abdullah Khan Shoishab.Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farzana Haque passed the order as policeproduced the duo before the court and pleaded to place them on a 10-day
remand each.The two were arrested in separate drives in the capital last night.A procession of DU students in support of the anti-discrimination studentsmovement took off in front of the Raju sculpture on the campus in theafternoon of July 15, 2024, police sources said.At that time, leaders and activists of various affiliated organisations ofthe Awami League (AL), including the banned BCL, attacked the protestingstudents with local and foreign-made weapons in which 300 students wereseriously injured.
DU student Arman Hossain, who was injured in the brutal attack, filed thecase on October 28 against 220 including BCL president Saddam Hossain.
