A court in Sirajganj on Wednesday sentenced five persons including a Sub-Inspector (SI) and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police to 21 years imprisonment in a case on two separate sections.

The court also fined Tk 40,000 each of them; in default they have to suffer two more months in jail.

M Ali Ahmed, Judge of the District and Session Court delivered the verdict on Wednesday noon. Rashedul Islam, Stenographer of the court confirmed the matter to the media.

The convicted police personnel are SI Mainul Hasan and ASI Matiur Rahman.

On the other hand, accused Sabbir Alam alias Sabuj was sentenced to two years imprisonment. The court also fined him Tk 20,000, in default, he will suffer one more year in jail.

The accused Mintu and Monsur Ali were acquitted as the allegations brought against them could not be proved.

According to the prosecution brief, it was learnt that, the accused took away a truck loaded with 252 sacks of onion from in front of Samabay Petrol Pump in Hatikumrul area under Salonga police station in Sirajganj district on July 10, 2017.
