At least two people were killed and one other injured when a truck collided head-on with a microbus at the Noyangati area of the Bogura-Nagarbari highway in Sirajganj early on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Manik Chandra Sheel, 42, a passenger of the microbus, and Monsurul Alom Babul, 40, the driver.
Both hailed from Harinathpur of Aminpur thana, Pabna.
Hatikumrul Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdur Rouf said the accident took place around 6:00am on Friday when a cement-laden truck hit a Kashinathpur bound microbus at the Noyangati area of the highway.
Both the drivers had lost control after the collision, resulting in the truck falling into a roadside ditch.
Police and fire fighters rushed the spot and rescued the victims from the spot.
They were taken to Ullapara Upazila Health Complex where Babul and Manik succumbed to their injuries, the OC said.
The other injured person Sumon Kumar Das, Manik’s brother and also a passenger of the microbus, is undergoing treatment in hospital, according to the OC.
Police seized both vehicles from the spot but the driver of the truck managed to flee, he said, adding that a case was filed.
