Two persons drowned in Jamuna and Karotoa river in Sirajganj district on Wednesday in two separate incidents.
In the first incident, Sabbir Hossain, 11, son of Abdul Momin of Purba Delua village in Ullapara upazila of the district drowned in the Karotoa river in Shrikhola area.
The victim went to visit his maternal grandfather Abdul Khaleque’s house in Shrikhola village of the upazila to celebrate Eid festival. The incident took place at around 11:00am, when he fell into the Karotoa river from a bridge near his grandpa’s house, while playing with other friends. After a massive search, locals rescued his body.
In second incident, a college student drowned in the Jamuna river near Meghai ghat area in Kazipur upazila of the district.
The deceased was Mirajul Haque Tomal, 18, son of Harun or Rashid of Jamalpur village in Shahzahanpur upazila of Bogura district and also student of class-XI at Cantonment Public School and College in Bogura.
Tomal also went Kazipur to visit his relative house on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
The incident took place at around 2:00pm, when he got down in the river for bathing along with his friends. But, he went missing due to strong current of the river. After the incident, police and fire fighter teams started salvage operation, but, he is yet to be rescued.
