Two people were killed and another injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Bogura highway at the Biroil area under Bogura’s Sherpur upazila on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Shuvo Islam, 20, son of Abdul Hai of Biroil village, and Hridoy Hasan, 20, son of Solaiman of the same area. Injured Sagar Islam is being treated at the Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College hospital. They were all friends with each other.
According to locals and police, the three friends were returning home riding a motorcycle. Around 11:30am, when they reached the Biroil area, an unidentified speeding truck hit the motorcycle from behind and Shuvo and Hridoy, who were riding pillion, were thrown onto the road. Shuvo and Hridoy died on the spot after being crushed under the another truck’s wheels.
Sagar, who was riding the motorcycle, was injured. Locals rescued him and sent him to the Sherpur Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
He was later referred to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMCH), said Azizul Haque, inspector of the Sherpur Police Station.
“We were not able to seize the truck as it fled the scene. The bodies were handed over to the families after legal procedures,” said Azizul Haque.
A similar motorcycle accident occurred at the Shabandeghi area of the same highway in Sherpur on March 12, and three friends riding a motorcycle were killed in that accident.
