Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Sitakunda upazila on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Md Hasan, 45, a night guard from the Purbo Syedpur area under Syedpur union, and Md Saikat, 26, a truck driver’s assistant from the same upazila.

Sources at the Highway Police said Hasan was crushed to death by an unidentified Dhaka-bound vehicle around 6:30am while returning after dumping garbage in a canal beside the highway at Banur Bazar.

Meanwhile, around 10:30pm on Saturday, a Dhaka-bound covered van was hit by a truck near the Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex. As a result, its helper, Saikat, fell from the vehicle and was run over by its wheels.

He was first taken to the Upazila Health Complex, from where he was referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning.
