20 films get govt grants for FY2023-24

A total of 20 full-length films and six short films will receive Taka 15.20crore government grants for the fiscal year 2023-2024.

The names of the films, their producers and directors were disclosed on the Information and Broadcasting Ministry website on Wednesday.

The grants were given in Liberation War, Children, Documentary and General Film categories. Each year, the government provides grants to several full-length and short films.

Two films, “Pakistane Bondi Jibon” directed and produced by Sajedul Islam and “Chhowa” directed and produced by Rakibul Hasan got funding in the Liberation War category. Both films will receive funding of Tk 75 lakhs each.

The films “Odvut” produced by Raied Morshed and “Cholonbiler Manik” by Niamul Mukta have got funding from the Children’s Welfare Department. Each of these films will receive a grant of Tk 50 lakhs.

Two films “No-Mads of the North” and “Kaler Jatra” have secured funding as the documentary film category. Piplu R Khan and Rasel Rana Doza are the producers of the movies respectively. On the other hand, 14 films have been selected for general category, with each project receiving Tk 75 lakhs.

The 14 films are– “Mihin Gatha” produced by Mirza Shobnom Ferdousi, “Thikana” by Zahangir Hossain Babar, “Suraiya” by Fazle Hasan Shishir, “Joya” by Golam Mostafa, “Lobh” by Pinky Akhtar, “Shokhi Rongomala” by N Rashed Chowdhury, “Jaat” by Sheli Kader, “Moyner Char” by Sumon Parvez, “Kalbela” by Ibrahim Khalil Mishuk (Mishuk Moni),  “Sheyana” by Manoj Pramanik, “Ajiron” by Gitali Hasan, “Postmortem” by Mohammad Nizam Uddin, “Ha Ghore” by Noor Monir and “Muktijuddher Chetona” produced by Dewan Nazrul.

While, the six government-granted short films are–   “Aporajito 71” produced by Mayeen Uddin Pathan, “Joldashi” by Md Abdul Khalek , “Dolim Kumar and Talpukur’s Ant” by Samir Ahmed, “Moutali Pithar Ghran” by Juairayaha Mou, “Phoenix Pakhi” by S M Kamrul Ahsan, and “Abu Ibrahim er Mrittu” by Mohammad Mamun Sobhani.  Each of these films will receive a grant of Tk 20 lakhs.
