In a joint operation, the National Security Intelligence (NSI), the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID), and security personnel of Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport on Thursday seized 20 gold bars from a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight.
Confirming the incident, Engineer Md Ibrahim Khalil, spokesperson for the airport, said the gold bars, weighing 2.33 kilogram and valued at Tk 2.60 crore, were seized from BG 148, a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight that arrived from Dubai at around 9:25am.
“Wrapped with black tape, the gold bars were smuggled from Dubai and hidden under seat 9J of the aircraft. However, no one was arrested in this connection,” he added.
“We do not want to disclose the identity of the passenger of the seat. A case will be filed in this connection with Patenga Police Station,” he said further.
