At least 20 persons were injured in sporadic clashes between the people of Bhangabari and Natun Bhangabari Moholla (colony) in Sirajganj municipality centering establishment of supremacy in the area.

The clash has been going on once and again for the last three days.

To restore the law and order situation, police on Friday night conducted a drive in the area and detained five persons in this connection.

The arrested are: Salauddin, 40, Abdur Rahman, 32, Maruf Khan, 35, Masud Rana, 52 and Liton Sheikh, 40.

Police also seized lethal weapons from their possessions during the drive.

Locals said, the two groups of people locked in the clash over establishing supremacy in the area. They attacked and chased each other along with iron rods and hurled brickbats that left 20 from the both groups injured.

Mokhlesur Rahman, Officer in Charge of Sirajganj Sadar police station said, police trying to control the situation and restore the law and order in the area. Additional police have been deployed to the area to avert further untoward incident.
