At least 20 students of Islamic University (IU) were injured when their bus overturned on its way back to the campus from Kushtia town on Tuesday.

The accident took place around 10:00 AM in Brittipara area near the campus.

The injured were rushed to Kushtia Sadar Hospital, IU Medical Center, and nearby hospitals. According to the latest reports, the bus driver and helper have fled the scene.

Eyewitnesses stated that the bus left Kushtia for the campus at 10:00 AM. It was reportedly traveling at high speed. While attempting to overtake another vehicle, it lost control, skidded off the road, and fell into a ditch.

University Proctor Professor Dr. Shahinuzzaman commented, “We arrived at the scene immediately upon hearing about the accident. Many people were injured. Twelve were brought to Kushtia Medical, of which eight were treated and sent back after primary care. Four others were more seriously injured and have been admitted to the hospital. Various tests are underway. I am here to oversee the treatment, and if anyone requires further medical attention, they will be referred to a specialist facility.”
